San Juan Island community, it has now been over five months since the "NO LEFT TURN SIGNS" were installed for public safety reasons at the intersection of Nichols St & Argyle Ave. There are still too many people either not being aware of the signs or just choosing not to follow the no left turn signs.
On October 24, 2024, we had yet another incident of someone making the illegal left turn but this time they ran into an 80-year-old male crossing the crosswalk. Thankfully he did not suffer any serious injuries, but this could have turned out tragically different.
Traffic signs and traffic laws are put in place for the public safety of everyone. I encourage everyone to be more aware of their surroundings when operating their vehicles and follow the traffic signs and laws for the safety of everyone in our community.
Please drive safe, there's no traffic signs to ignore or places to go that fast that's worth hurting someone else.
